UPDATE! 17 June 2007
After writing this article on Lame Moderators and Bulletin Boards - I have noticed something funny. Even though I never named the board I was talking about, and never talked about anyone directly - the very site that I am railing against is reading this article.
How do I know? Well let me tell you. Here, I am GOD. I run the show here. The lame moderators that I speak of have no sick and twisted control of me here. Which I'm sure burns their bacon quite black.
See, at my website I have a link to this Blog of mine. And at my web server, I get daily web server log reports that tell me exactly who's doing what. And on those web server logs, I have IP addresses, and remote links. And take one guess who's linking to this article? You got it - the very lame moderators I rail against.
For a bunch of people who claim to hate me so deeply, they sure seem very interested in what I have to say. You people are the most sick and twisted individuals I have ever had the unfortunate experience to meet. And these log reports I have prove that your a sick bunch of freaks. Why would you care what I have to say if you hate me so deeply?
This once again is just another example of the double standard, and twisted behavior that you all exhibit. I bet your all just shaking with rage at the fact that you have no control of what I say here about you. Seeing as how you asshole freaks just LOVE to control people who disagree with your lame ass music site(s).
When I first read my web server log reports, and found that a lot of you are linking to this article, I fell on the floor, flopping around like a Crappie Fish in total and complete laughter. You guys are such twisted pricks!
Well, that's all for now. Keep linking to this article you sick twisted freaks. I have all your IP's logged. Because, here I RUN THE SHOW! And I know that burns you to the core, and I'm loving it!
End of Update for 17 June 2007
After reading my all time favorite radio personality's blog, Phil Hendrie, and how Phil is ticked off at sweetfeatheryjesus.com for turning into a bash Hendrie site - I just had to comment about it in my blog.
I have experience with this - I know what Phil is talking about and I have much to say about RBBS's and the people that run them.
First off, I have run a BBS - way back in the day I ran "The Lumber Yard BBS". It was a message board running Citadel-86 on an IBM PC. (Ported by Hue Jr back in 1986) I ran it for a couple of years - and users reported they liked the BBS and the discussions there.
My philosophy on running a BBS was simple - don't interfere in the discussions until people start getting out of control. Or they start saying things that are illegal. That was a good way to run a BBS because the topics really took off, and users were not afraid to say what was on their minds. And that's the whole point of running a BBS - to let users talk and discuss whatever they like with little or no restrictions.
The problem comes when you have Moderators at these boards who think that they are the "Brain Police", or the "Comment Cops". They close down message threads that they don't agree with. Or they ban users with whom they don't agree with. It's almost like they enjoy controlling people in a twisted sort of way.
There are two RBBS's that I have been banned from - and I will not give the names of these places because I don't want to advertise their sites for them. Both sites are music related, and musician related. At first these places seemed pretty cool. But after a while, I felt that I was being singled out for speaking my mind. The very thing an RBBS is for!
At one of the sites I have a permanent ban that will never be lifted, and the other site I currently have a 7 day ban going for "insulting the staff". The site with the permanent ban is a long story - but basically several of the Moderators over there didn't like me personally. Maybe they were jealous of how good my guitar playing was? At any rate they threatened my life, and they accused me of being a homosexual. All with the purpose of humiliating me and driving me off the board.
I was driven off the board alright. They would never let me post messages in which I was pointing out the problem with having aggressive moderators. They would cut me off when I pointed out the boards flaws, and it's Moderator's flaws. But if you think about it, isn't that natural Human behavior anyway? To deflect criticism?
But when you deflect criticism is such an aggressive looking way, doesn't that make you look guilty of it to begin with? I think it does. I think I asked the right questions, pointed out the right flaws, they took offence at that, then turned the screws down tight on my thumbs.
That's the power these RBBS's have over you when you become one of their members. You either tow the party line at that site - or expect to be expunged in some sort of uncouth manner. Remember not to speak the truth either, that's a no no. Don't tell it like it is, because that will only get you banned, or exiled from the site. Some people really get off on wielding a virtual baseball bat around at users. They do this in a the form of a user ban.
The other site that has banned me for seven days for so called "insulting the staff" is another story in and of itself. A story that is mostly a waste of time writing down here - because I clearly once again had the upper hand in the argument. So what do they do? Ban me for seven days to shut me down. What a great way censor your RBBS! I insulted no one. And believe me, I know what an insult is. I drive a semi-truck all over the USA. I have been on some of the roughest loading docks you could ever imagine. And seen some of the roughest looking, ugliest looking dock foremen in the country. Those dudes can insult you right to your face. Some dick weed on a RBBS in Tennessee or Oregon can only insult you by typing a little message. Who made who?
The owner of the site where I have the seven day ban just recently jumped my candy for a post I made in a Don Imus thread. Yes folks, the owner of the site can insult anyone they feel deserves it, he even admitted he insulted me in the thread. This is a prime example of the thick double standard some RBBS's have - and that's something to look for and think about before you enter the world of BBS's.
These little pricks who run these RBBS's wouldn't dare talk or act like that around me in person. They hide like little kids behind their computer screens - typing out messages, making arrows out of pointed words like giant killers at the call. I was in the US Army for 8 years, I know what tough is - these weak little pussies who run these RBBS's are not tough. They want desperately to be tough, and find an outlet for this aberration via the RBBS scene.
So I say to guys like Phil Hendrie, and others who find the whole RBBS scene sort of lame, your right! It is lame! But it can be cool too if you find the right board to frequent. Then it becomes quite fun. But that's the whole kicker isn't it - finding the right one that's run by decent, fun people.
